Routes
Argyll is surrounded in woodland and lochs which could keep you cycling on a different track every day for years to come. Here are a few of the most popular routes!
For maps of these routes, please visit these pages at Mid Argyll Cycle Club.
CRINAN CANAL (Easy)
The Crinan Canal is approximately 9 miles long and perfectly flat. It is one of the more popular routes for families and casual cyclists. Once on the towpath you can forget about traffic (appart from the boats sailing alongside) andf there are a couple of stopping points for refreshments along the way of required. You will pass through a National Nature Reserve (complete with bird hides) and take in some fantastic scenery at every turn. If you want to go a bit further, you can take a detour towards Kilmartin Glen and village, with its historic cairns, standing stones & stone circles. Not a bad way to spend a day!
FIRE TOWER MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL (Intermediate/Difficult)
The Fire Tower Trail is a purpose built mountain bike track with a long hard forestry climb linking on to some fantastic single track which includes berms, jumps, drop offs and a section of north shore (raised wooden platform). The views from the fire tower are stunning and well worth the effort.
Although suitable for new cyclists, this track does require a reasonable level of fitness and for those ready for a bit of a challenge.
FORESTRY COMMISSION (Easy-ish!)
The Forestry Commission have numerous tracks all over the area. These tracks are predominantly made up of forestry roads and tend to be a bit hilly (up and down). Although some are marked out, it is still recommended to take an ordinance survey map due to the amount of track and options out there. For more information and individual maps, please contact the forestry directly!
The options for road cyclists are also fantastic, with hundreds of miles of quiet singletrack roads clinging to some gorgeous scenery.
These are just some of the routes available to you. If you require any more information, whether it be for a family ride-out or for all day endurance, please do not hesite to contact us.
